Storybook Slab Boxes

This project was for my Ceramics 1 students in Muskegon.  They were learning basic slab building techniques, refining their carving, additive sculpture, and glazing techniques while learning to design boxes that are interesting from all sides (3D design).  The students were asked to find their favorite picture books from their childhood and choose an overall shape and designs that would help their audience know what the book was without any words included.  It was interesting to see them struggle and then finally triumph over using nonlinguistic symbols and form to help them relay their story.
